At the gates of La Livinière, the 19th century tile factory reflects the industrial heritage of the region. Its red brick 16.50 metre-high smokestack is still an orientation landmark for lost travellers.
Many tile and brick factories existed at that time in the region, but few are in such excellent condition.
This building also housed a fermenting room next to the oven, now unused but still visible. The size of the L’Ostal Cazes holdings has necessitated the development of technical facilities. The fermenting room is now in a building annexed to the Tuilerie.
The self-guided tour is punctuated by explanatory panels on the functioning of the tile factory and stages of winemaking. The tour ends at the heart of the huge oven for baking tiles and pipes.
The coolness of the sites invites visitors to enjoy a few relaxing moments looking at photographs, maps and information related to the appellation Minervois-La Livinière.
